Kalimpong, April 28: If you thought kids were only interested in cartoons and
bedtime stories, think again.
Quizzards aged between seven and 10 years today amazed the audience at Town Hall shooting back answers faster than quiz-master Pravesh Kumar could fire them, and charming everyone by huddling to discuss answers and jumping for joy as points got added to their total.
The questions ranged from naming the largest river in the world, to identifying the voices of Bollywood playback singers or even knowing the sport in which local girl Paril Lepcha had bagged the gold at the national level.
The quiz, which had eight rounds, also had the children identifying vegetables and fruits and recognising the various cultural dresses in the audio-visual round.
Organised by Best Academy, children from five schools battled it out for top honours at the first ever inter-nursery school quiz competition. Each team consisted of five children, studying in Classes II to IV.
Principal of Best Academy Ritesh Kumar said: “We came up with the idea of hosting the event in a bid to instil students with confidence and give them a competitive bend of mind.”
“We have always believed that children should know more than what they learn from schoolbooks. We want to make them interested in the goings-on around the world,” he added.
There were questions from school texts as well.
The hosts bagged first position with Yangden Nursery School coming a close second. Gyan Jyoti Academy stood third.
