Watch Sherpa, says ABGL

KALIMPONG, April 29. — The Kalimpong branch of the Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League (ABGL) has demanded that besides providing proper police protection to the accused in the assassination of DGHC councilor late CK Pradhan, the concerned authorities should also keep a watch on former councillor of the ‘Gidabling-Singhi’ constituency, Mr Tshering Sherpa.
Asserting that all the accused hail from the above-mentioned constituency, the ABGL leader, Mr Pratap Khati, said that apart from Mr Sherpa, the accused have also spelled out the name of another former councilor and general secretary of the GNLF, Kalimpong branch, Mr Roshan Rai, under 164 confessional statement.
Alleging that Mr Sherpa hails from Solukhompu (Nepal), Mr Khati said: “He is originally a Nepalese citizen”.
Senior ABGL leaders said that it was only in the late 70s that Mr Sherpa entered India and started residing at Kaffeur, after marrying a local girl there. They claimed Mr Sherpa also owns a property in Nepal and accused him of having “dual citizenship”.
“The police should closely watch the movements of Mr Sherpa as he might sneak into Nepal anytime, especially after Mr Subash Ghisingh’s demand for a CBI inquiry into the CK assassination case,” Mr Khati said.
Mr Khati also demanded police protection of another accused, Sebastian Lepcha of Kangeybung (constituency 24). According to reports, three of the prime accused in the case, Niray Tamang, Daya Rai and Kumar Subba, are absconding.
Even the GNLF(C) has expressed doubts that the mastermind of the CK assassination has eliminated them all. Brother of CK Pradhan, and now the chief convener of the GNLF(C), Col (retd) DK Pradhan, had also in the past demanded that proper protection should be provided to all the witnesses in the case. It is believed that the dissident GNLF leader, CK Pradhan, was assassinated on 2 October 2002, prior to forming a new party. Despite several attempts Mr Sherpa, who resides at Kaffeur, could not be contacted.
