Now ‘Hanuman’ in Kalimpong!

KALIMPONG, Nov. 29. — The ‘Monkey God’, in Kalimpong is all set to get a new lease of life. A samiti here will be installing a nine-ft tall statue of Lord Hanuman in the premises of Hanuman Mandir, at Baghdara.
One of the trustee of the Baghdara Hanuman Mandir Vyasta Samiti (BHMVS), Advocate DN Pandey said: “The site for the installation of the statue is surely a beautiful site in the midst of town. Besides beautifying the place we also wanted to safeguard it from encroachments.”
The Samiti will also be constructing a small park, in which the statue will be centered.
“Work for the construction of the garden will begin in about a weeks time. After the completion of the garden, the statue will be installed”, Mr Pandey, said adding that the statue has already arrived in Kalimpong.
Made of fibreglass the statue was made by an artist named Subir Pal from Krishanagar, Mr Pandey added.
Interestingly, Baghdara, has had a historical impact on Kalimpong town since a long time. “The rally during the festival of ‘Mahavir Jhanda’, is being held from Baghdara since the last sixty years”, Mr Pandey added.
The BHMVS has hoped for the opening of the park by Saraswati Puja time.
“Baghdara is one of the holy places in Kalimpong. So we are looking forward for the preservation of the area”, one of the initiators and ex- DGHC councilor, Mr Prakash Dahal said.
Last year, a 31-feet tall statue of Lord Hanuman was installed at the Deorali Dara, about 12 kilometers away from here.
