Governor on hill town trip

Kalimpong, Feb. 22: Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi, who was here on a daylong trip, today visited the newly-installed electoral photo identity card issuing centre at the subdivisional office. He also visited Algarah, about 15 km from here, to see the construction work of a water reservoir.

“I came here to see how the electoral photo identity cards are being prepared. I also wanted to see the progress at Algarah,” said Gandhi.

The governor arrived from Darjeeling around 11.30 in the morning and left for Algarah half an hour later. He then went back to Raj Bhavan in Darjeeling.

Construction work for two reservoirs at Algarah, under the Neora Khola Valley Scheme, which started around 1990, was stopped after there was a funds crunch. Work started on one of them last year after the government sanctioned funds.
