Kalimpong, March 13: This year’s World Theatre Day (March 27) will have a special treat for the cultural circle of the hill town — a six-day theatre festival.
Organised jointly by the information and culture department and a local theatre group, Bhadreko Toli, the Kaleybung Natak Utsav will start on March 27. “This is the first time that a theatre festival is being organised here. The best part of the festival is that it will not only have Nepali plays but also those in Bhojpuri, Hindi and Bengali,” said P.D. Bal, the subdivisional information and culture officer.
According to C.K. Shrestra, the founder member and group leader of Bhadreko Toli, the festival aims at promoting good theatre among people here, who do not usually get an opportunity to watch plays. “We do not want to limit the festival to the Nepalis only. People from other communities are equally enthusiastic about it,” Shrestra said. “We hope to make it an annual event.”
