DARJEELING: In town on Sunday to attend the mass meeting of GJM, Darjeeling MP Jaswant Singh condemned ABGL leader Madan Tamang’s murder and said the probe should be conducted by a central investigating agency like CBI.
Singh also slammed the Left Front government for “neglecting the Hills for its vested interests”. “The CPM-led government has neglected the Hills for 30 years, depriving it of progress and development. And this has been done for its vested interests,” he said.
Singh, though, praised GJM supporters for turning up in huge numbers on Sunday. “Today’s gathering proves that the peace-loving Hills people have raised their voice to demand justice,” he said.
On Tamang’s murder, Singh said: “People have lost faith in the state police and CID. So, it is imperative that a central investigating agency like CBI probes the murder.” Singh suspected that there could be more to it than meets the eye in the Tamang murder case. “If Mamata Banerjee can say that the state government had a hand in the rail accident in Midnapore, I fear something like this cannot be ruled out in Tamang’s murder as well,” he said.
