Prabin Moktan’s reality check scored a direct hit on those dreaming of the past. The article needed a title. How about,’The end of innocence?’ ‘The demise of paradise?’ ‘The seduction of Shangrila?’ I prefer calling it the ‘Hotel California Syndrome’ you know the famous line -‘you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave…’ read the responses on this site – allo dum, thukpa, air conditioned space, simple people, garden bunglow, mountains, blue sky, organic food, the old school yard. Few adults ever ruminate of their past like we kalimpongians do and the DGH OGBs? We are living Wu li masters that can warp time and space. Listen to us talk of the 70s. Like it happened yesterday! In some countries we could be put away with like minded people in special places called asylums. Wouldn’t my family and the dogs love it? Never again to hear about a town that meant so much to so few?
I moved to New Zealand. The next best thing to Kpong. It is easy to pretend it is Kpong. The cool weather, the morning mist, the hills and the mountains, the cerulean blue sky, the long white cloud, magnolia, rodedendron, the Maori,(look like our tribals), the sparkling streams, the Scots as in the Homes. I wake up every morning with a strange sense of dejavu, of having been here before. Steaming tea in my chipped Chinese enamel mug that sears my lips, I look up and salute the gods for they know us as the people of kalimpong who said, “heaven can wait.”

I am involved with a Youth Training Centre called Himalayan Mispah Institute (Govt. Regd) situated at Dr. Graham’s Homes. As I am in Malaysia since last week for about a month, I felt myself at home while going through the Kalimpong.info. I very much appreciate for this website, and I felt proud of it. I could show this website to my countless Chinese and Malay friends. Keep it up.

Hi I wonder if anyone from Kalimpong could kindly help us as regards renting a bungalow type accomodaion preferable on the way to Algarah/Pedong somewhere on 12 – 13th mile area.

We are looking at long term renting 2 – 3 years and would be willing to pay a good rent depending on the property, we have no children and semi-retired but the property should have a drive in so that we can park our vehicle in the property.

Please do get back to me ASAP.

    Many thanks

Nice to see the photos and essantial information of “Hamro Kalimpong” in website. It is indeed an appreciable work done by ……….??????(Sorry Mate, i don’t know the name of the genius person who made this site, however “Hats off to you”Bravo……)…
Kalimpong has always been close to my heart and mind and if there is anyone else whom i love and respect most next to God and my Family(Appa,Ama,Reetu,Aanchal and Buwa ani Ama) would be “Mero Kalimpong…Mayo ko Phulbari )…I wish to settle down in my home town but it’s an open secret that it is very hard to manage both end meets in home town (Hill area)due to lack of job oppertunities as result of which not only me but thousand and lakhs of educated, efficient people have been working outside the home town…I would like to request to our respected/honourable political leaders to kindly do something to young educated people….. What about the upcomming generation who r in nursery and appearing school final? Any guess….Have you ever been to Delhi,Kolkatta,Bangalore?…………just go and see….people have been working in hotels, bar and BPO(Call centre)….Is this what our degree and diplomas for?our forefather served and saved the nation by blood and sweat…..now we are serving the private companies by working 24 hrs(Chowkidar, call centre executive and cab driver and sales executive)Is this what our forefathers dreamt off and sacrificed their lives for the nation? Plez do something for young educated people or else the day wil come when there will be no “Young people” in home town……..It’s a truth and truth never die…..Let’s save young educated people 4rm frustration ……Ajay Rai

A man understands the true value of a possession only after losing it. I have the same nostalgic feelings about Kalimpong day in and day out. I was born and bred in kalimpong and really treasure the days i spent there. I currently live in hawaii which is fondly called the “Paradise on Earth”, but for me the only paradise I have ever known in Kalimpong. It was wonderful to come across this site quite by serendipity. It gives all of us a platform to connect and rejoice the splendor called KALIMPONG. MAhalo to the webhost.

  29. Hello Friends,

Let us keep on praying for the successful tri-partite talks on the 21st December 2009. Hope, this day we will hear the very good news regarding the creation of the GORKHALAND state.

Friends, we are thankful to God for allowing the Hamro Sankalpa, quarterly Nepali Christian Digest, to enter into 8th year of its publication. Dear MVC members, please join us in Phidim of Panchthar during 6-8 February 2010.

I wish all the readers a very meaningful Christmas, on which day, the Lord Jesus Christ was born to be our Savior for all, not only the Christians, but really for all.

Wish you all a very blessed Happy Near Year 2010.

  30. I loved my school life in DGH Kalimpong. My dad Mr Pratt was the Senior English and Literature teacher and my mum taught the kids in special school. I was from the batch of 1973 and still keep in touch with a lot of my school friends. We are making a trip to Kalimpong this September and can’t wait to catch up with everyone. Sadly dad passed away some 17 years ago and Mum just passed on the 12 February 2010.
