Kalimpong, Oct. 25: Total Sanitation Campaign, a government project aimed at providing proper sanitation in rural areas, was launched in Kalimpong Block I today.
The project, jointly undertaken by the state government and the Centre, will be implemented across the Darjeeling district.
First, a survey will be conducted to find out the sanitation requirements of each village. A workshop on how to carry out the survey was held — after the inauguration programme at Town Hall here today — to train members of self-help groups enlisted for the purpose.
“After the survey, the DGHC District Rural Development Cell will prepare a project implementation plan and forward it to the government,” said Diki Bhutia, block development officer, Kalimpong I.
